INTRODUCTION

A cancer diagnosis is life changing. At Esperance, we offer support and information for patients and caregivers at every step of the way. From counselling to cognitive behavior therapy and everything in between, our experts and community can help patients cope with the psychological stress. Emotional and social support can help the patient reduce the chance of falling into depression and the development of disease- and treatment-related symptoms. We are here to answer your questions and concerns.

BEHAVIORAL HEALTH CENTER

To us, each patient is more than a diagnosis. Every patient has a life beyond cancer, and we want to be there to help during the process. We take as much time as needed to communicate, understand and support our patients. Cancer care planning and psychological support go hand in hand; we will do as much as we can to help patients get back to their normal routine. To help ease the patient’s anxieties, our Behavioral Health Center is always available to offer a helping hand.

We understand that patients and caregivers may experience a range of emotions, including anxiety, depression, grief and fatigue. At Behavioral Health Center, we provide personalized support services, which are designed to help patients deal with the emotional consequences of a cancer diagnosis, as well as treatments. The conversations will focus on how patients can maximize their quality of life. From there, we will point the patients to the support services that are best for their specific case; this includes medical management for depression or anxiety, stress management, counselling therapy, cognitive behavior therapy, and support for family members and exercise programs.

CANCER SUPPORT GROUP

Support groups give patients and caregivers the opportunity to discuss feelings, concerns and attitudes in a friendly and safe atmosphere. At Esperance, professionally trained social workers facilitate the group conversations to help patients and family members cope with the impact and changes that result from a cancer diagnosis.

Cancer support groups will also organize social outings and educational activities, as well as providing reliable online resources for patients and caregivers. Esperance wants to create a caring social environment where patients, survivors, caregivers, family and friends can connect and support each other.
